The Verbal Arena

Liaoning Street in Taipei is occupied by market activities and local gatherings that are informed by social media. Physical barriers are eliminated by the excavation of building facades and lightweight wooden structures extend interior spaces through to new exterior public spaces as new points of gathering.

The injection of Taiwanese game shows and traditional grappling events ignites political conversations; while the events reveal themselves through written rice paper cladding that are displayed on the structures.

The nature of the intervention amplifies the existing informality found in the market and is a heightens the experience of a vibrant social space, cultural festivities and political undercurrents of Liaoning Street in Taipei.
