INTER-02

The aim of the year was to introduce a 'new' to the 'old' town of Aldermaston, near Reading, England.

This 'new' addition to Aldermaston is the residence for women in the 'second half' of their lives.

The residence sits with specific structural elements of Portland House, a derelict and abandoned office building, which sits besides a fish pond inside Aldermaston's Manor Park.

Here, successful, accomplished, but now excluded socially from productive society, elderly women congregate to live the rest of their days away from social isolation, and with the aim to nourish themselves, their garden and Aldermaston.

"How can you live so long and still not get it? This self obsession is a waste, that could be spent on surviving things, appreciating nature, nurturing, kindness, friendship and dancing"
- Eve (Only Lovers Left Alive, Jim Jarmusch, 2013)

Eve is played by Tilda Swinton,
(and is dressed in a monochratic yellow palette all through the film).

Imitating Eve

(Situated within Portland House, this space was selected as the starting point for change due to its vegetation, but mostly, the experience of having to change the white balance in my camera due to the automatic correction of the yellow light that inhabited this space).
