INTER-09

The aim of the project is that of reanimating the central area of the Harbor of Copenhagen. Through the initial analysis of the Inderhavnen bridge, I am proposing a structure that will respond to the unseen forces of the harbor: sensible to the water currents from below and wind currents from above. As well as bringing back the incredible nautical culture and tradition that fulfilled the waters of Copenhagen during the years of the Royal Danish Navy, making Holmen (city within Copenhagen) the worlds largest shipyard.

Inderhavnen Reanimation

A structure that responds to the unseen forces of the harbor as well as acting as a transition for the role of the vessel within the city of Copenhagen.

Royal Danish Navy Pontoon

Re-injecting back in the harbor the forms and shapes of the Royal Danish Navy vessels through the technique of stepping stones, pontoons.

Harbor Forces Driving Form

The Beaufort Scale is an empirical measure that relates wind speed to observed conditions at sea. The structure will change form and create different configurations according to the different wind stages present in Copenhagen. Allowing for the city to interact and read these shape variations as measurements of the unseen forces.

A Current Sensible Structure

A structure that will respond to the unseen forces of the harbor: water currents from below and wind currents from above. Visually mapping the forces through movement.

Inderhavnen Reanimation

Plan view of a fragment of the floating structure in the four stages of the Beaufort Scale.

A Changing Perception Of The City

The constant movement of the forces allows them to counterbalance each other and start reflecting different rhythms through the opening and closure of the vertical ribs. This allows for the city to be constantly seen from a different perspective. Hence, never having the same view both of the city and the structure.

Inhabiting The Structure

Relationship between the city and the structure.
